GUNDAM.... TOKYO MAKES THINGS HAPPEN
After months of preparation and an unofficial unveiling, the life-size Gundam at Odaiba (台場) Shiokaze Park (潮風公園), Tokyo was official open to public this past weekend. Based on the original schematics of RX-78-2 Gundam model from the very first Gundam animation released in 1979, the 18-meter (or 59-foot) high statue is comprised of fiberglass shell over steel frame. It also boast some 50+ lights and 14 points to emit “mist” for added effect. The statue will usher in Gundam Big Expo in August, the largest convention of its kind to celebrate Gundam’s 30th anniversary this year.
